Hamilton, ON — May 29, 2025
After nearly three grueling months of digging through mountains of waste, Hamilton police have uncovered partial human remains at the Glanbrook Landfill — the very site where they feared 40-year-old Shalini Singh may have been dumped after her mysterious disappearance in December.

The shocking discovery could bring answers to a case that has rattled the Hamilton community for months. Singh was last seen alive on December 4. Surveillance video shows her returning to her apartment but never exiting again.

Police believe she may have been murdered and disposed of through her building’s garbage chute — a horrifying theory that led them to sift through 5,000 cubic metres of landfill.

“We are now working closely with the Coroner’s Office, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and the Center for Forensic Sciences to examine the remains,” said Det.-Sgt. Daryl Reid at a press briefing Thursday morning. “It could take several weeks before DNA results confirm whether the remains belong to Shalini.”

A Search That Took Months — And Mountains of Waste

The excavation at Glanbrook Landfill began on February 24. For weeks, investigators, forensic teams, and landfill staff examined trash from the window of Singh’s suspected disposal date — digging through what Reid called “thousands of cubic meters of garbage.”

Their efforts were finally met with a grisly breakthrough on May 21.

A Boyfriend Who Isn’t Talking

Singh’s boyfriend — who lived with her at the time — has remained uncooperative throughout the investigation. Police searched their shared apartment and two vehicles, seizing what they called “relevant items.”

He was briefly missing himself during the early phase of the probe, later found visiting family out of town. Despite being a person of interest, he has not been named a suspect. Not yet.

“We will not identify a suspect until charges are laid,” Reid stated firmly. “But once DNA results return, this investigation will move to the next stage.”

The City Watches and Waits

Superintendent Marty Schoenberg acknowledged the emotional toll this case has taken: “Our members have shown tireless dedication… Our hearts remain with Shalini’s loved ones.”

For now, Hamilton waits. Waits for confirmation. Waits for justice. Waits for answers buried in the trash.
